How it works
The terms of the deal
Four clauses. You write the first three — Enkra never stops honoring the fourth.
01
Connect your bank
Link your accounts through Plaid. Enkra reads real transactions — no manual entry, no honor system. Your actual spending is the only input that matters.
02
Set the limits
Decide what dining, shopping, or entertainment is worth to you each period. You write these terms on a calm Sunday, not a hungry Thursday.
03
Map apps to money
DoorDash answers to your dining budget. Amazon answers to shopping. Every app you name is bound to the category it spends from.
04
Enkra holds the line
Cross a limit and the bound apps lock through iOS Screen Time — at the system level, until the period resets. No nagging. No negotiation. Just the deal you made.
Features
Read the fine print.
It’s on your side.
§01
System-level locks
Built on Apple’s Screen Time and Family Controls APIs. A locked app is locked by iOS itself — not a notification you can swipe away.
§02
Real bank data
Plaid syncs transactions as they post. The budget reflects what you actually spent, usually within minutes.
§03
Category budgets
Weekly or monthly limits per category, with rings that show exactly where you stand before you order.
§04
Emergency breaks
Real life happens. You hold a limited number of breaks per period — using one is deliberate, visible, and never punished.
§05
Rewards, not guilt
Every blocked impulse is a save, and saves earn rewards. Contract uptime replaces guilt-trip streaks.
§06
Private by design
Screen Time decisions happen on-device. Bank credentials never touch our servers, and your data is never sold.
ἐγκράτεια
en·krá·tei·a — Greek, “power over oneself”
The Stoics called it self-command: wanting what you chose to want. Enkra is that virtue, automated — the calm Sunday you sets the budget, and a system keeps faith with it on a hungry Thursday night.
Willpower is a budget too. Stop spending it.

FAQ
Asked before
signing
Fair questions. A commitment device should survive scrutiny — that's rather the point.
What if I genuinely need a locked app?
You hold a limited number of emergency breaks each period. Using one unlocks the app immediately — no shame, no dark patterns. The limit is the point: breaks are for emergencies, not for Tuesday cravings.
Can’t I just loosen the budget when I want to spend?
Raising a limit or unbinding an app takes effect after a cooldown, not instantly. Tightening is always immediate. The asymmetry is deliberate — the calm you decides the terms, not the tempted you.
Does Enkra see my bank login?
No. Bank connections run through Plaid — your credentials go to your bank, never to us. Enkra receives read-only transaction data, encrypted in transit and at rest.
Is this on Android?
iOS first — the beta is iPhone only. Android is on the roadmap.
What does it cost?
Nothing during the private beta. Beta members lock in founding terms when pricing arrives.
